The course is aimed at providing students with a broad picture on the English law of property, scil., introducing its structure and the types of proprietary interests recognized in England. English property law, which has been heavily influenced by its own history (especially, feudalism), is in many respects distant from the property law of civil tradition. Furthermore, with the impact of the court of equity, English property law has created and developed certain distinct concepts and features (or mechanisms) that are not found in civilian legal system. However, since we are trained in the civil law system, how to properly understand English property law with a pair of civil-law glasses is one of the key issues for us to overcome when studying English property law; and it is the overcoming of it to which the course is devoted.
